Why book
'West Midlands Primary School Christmas Pantomime Tour 2024' with ReachOut Educate
Pantomime is part of British tradition, especially at Christmas, and, for many children, it is their very first experience of live theatre. We're excited to be bringing this vibrant, lively and, yes, NOISY show to schools up and down the country. After a sell out tour of Jack and the Beanstalk over Christmas 2023, this year's school friendly version of Little Red Riding Hood is on the road around the West Midlands and the Welsh Border for Winter 2024!
Our performance is self-contained, so you don't need to provide anything apart from somewhere for us to plug our speaker/lights in, a performance space (a school hall works best!) and of course, an audience!
The show will last approximately 45 minutes and this includes an ''Introduction to Panto'' segment at the start of the session. This will feature our actors explaining and demonstrating pantomime traditions, such as all the familiar audience participation like booing, hissing, cheering and the famous "Oh Yes It Is!".
The live performance itself is around 30-35 minutes long and the children will be able to use the responses that they've learnt at the beginning of the session to help Little Red through her adventure, meeting many characters along the way!
Performances can be booked for a full school or we can repeat the show throughout the day for smaller groups of different ages. We are flexible to create a show timetable that works best for your school.
If you wanted to add a little something extra to your day, we can also provide follow up worksheets and activity ideas to continue the panto fun in the classroom after!

What activities are available during this educational workshop?
During this in-school visit you can expect a lively, engaging and interactive pantomime performance of Little Red Riding Hood. The performance includes a short presentation called "Introduction to Panto", in which the actors will explain, demonstrate and encourage the children in learning and understanding the traditional actions in this style of live performance.
Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?
Performing Arts
This live in-school performance is a great way to introduce the concept and topic of performing arts to Key Stage 1 & 2 students. Pantomime is sometimes a child's first glimpse of theatre and it has it's own set of unwritten rules and traditions to follow. As well as a 35-40 minute performance, this production has a 15 minute ''Introduction to Panto'' section where the actors will explain and demonstrate the key characteristics of this style of performance to the students. The class will then have plenty of opportunities to try out their responses before the performance begins and throughout Jack's adventures!
What size groups do you cater for?
We are more than happy to provide performances for one class, split Key stages or the whole school. Whether that is with 2 performances back to back or one performance for all.
Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
Yes, we cater for children of all abilities and can adapt our sessions for full inclusivity.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
We are more than happy to adapt our performances to ensure inclusivity, our performances also include some element of Makaton signing.
Anything else?
We have a 'not one size fits all'' approach with any prospective school, group or club. If you need something specific for your school visit, just give us a call to chat about how we can help you!
Who are ReachOut Educate?
At ReachOut Educate, we deliver a variety of workshops covering a whole range of different topics in schools and festivals across the country. Our educational workshops have reached such a level that we have recently been awarded the Quality Badge from the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom!
We are a proud member of the Anti-Bullying Alliance and, each November we host in-school assemblies to spread these important ethics. We aim to deliver the message in a fun and exciting way, so we sprinkle our assemblies with creative interactive elements and activities to move away from the assembly being conducted in a ''lecture'' type fashion.
As well as in-school theatrical performances, we cover a wide variety of curriculum topics, the most popular being History which includes Roman Britain, Vikings and Tudors. We also offer a workshop specifically designed for KS1 called Kings, Queens & Castles. We own a collection of historical artefacts, our own mini museum, that we can easily take into schools so that the children can get hands on with learning how people lived and worked in the past. To deliver these we use actors who host the sessions in character to really bring history to life and create an interactive and immersive experience for the children. Each workshop includes a small ''speed story'' performance and various activities for the class to take part in; for example, quill writing, mosaic making and coin making.
We are a part of the ReachOut Arts group, and produce touring theatre as ReachOut Creative! After a sold out run last Christmas of Jack and the Beanstalk; we're super excited for Little Red Riding Hood to be out in the West Midlands this Winter! It's a new and exciting addition to our educational and entertainment line up and we look forward to bringing some live theatre into your school!
