Celtic Harmony Camp, the largest reconstructed Iron Age settlement in the UK has seven roundhouses located in a beautiful working woodland setting and has been offering hands-on heritage education for over 22 years. Your class will learn more about the natural world and life in ancient Britain first-hand. Pupils also experience a more sustainable way of life for the future with sustainable facilities such as a solar powered green toilet.

What activities are available during group visits?

The Prehistory Explorer (2 days/1 night) is a perfect first residential experience with a dedicated costumed educator to guide you throughout your stay as your pupils have the opportunity to learn about working together and become more independent.

The Prehistory Adventure (3 days/ 2 nights) will immerse pupils in 800,000 years of Prehistory as they journey from Stone Age Hunter Gatherers, to Bronze Age Farmers and Iron Age Warriors. This programme encourages pupils to work together to solve problems in their clans as they experience ancient Britain hands-on.

The Go Tribal Transition (3 days/ 2 nights) is a dynamic residential designed to develop confidence and communication skills in order to cope with new situations. Pupils will develop a range of woodland knowledge and build on their resilience, as well as problem solving and primitive skills.

Prehistory Explorer is £119/child, and both Prehistory Adventure and the Go Tribal Transition is £199/child. Adult helpers are £20/adult/night, recommended ratio: 1:8

Prehistory

Stone Age Bronze Age Iron Age

Day Trips cover the history of Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. A fully immersive experience, your class will be able to explore our authentic roundhouses and be lead through their prehistory day by our costumed educators. Your pupils will get to explore the lives of hunter gatherers and the first Iron Age farmers. There are opportunities to try flint knapping, building their own dens, hunting, gathering, cooking food, pottery and much more. They even have the chance to visit our Prehistoric cave, inspired by the caves at Lascaux.

Celts

At Celtic Harmony Camp children step into ancient Britain and experience Celtic life from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age through our programme of multi-sensory, experiential activities. School groups, led by our costumed education team take part in activities such as pottery, grinding grain and making bread, weaving on warp-weighted looms, bartering and trading with Celtic coins, archery, arts and crafts, fire lighting, warrior demonstrations and storytelling.

Our site is open to everyone, and we're committed to making sure that all of our experience days are accessible to children with special needs and physical disabilities. We regularly work with children and adults with learning difficulties.

What size groups do you cater for?

Minimum - Maximum number of participants:
25-60

Up to 14 children can sleep in each 6m diameter fully insulated roundhouse. There are 25mm gym mats on the floor so children have a comfy night in their sleeping bags. There is a toilet block with seven toilets, a shower and hand wash facilities. Teachers are accommodated in bell tents or other available roundhouses.

Do you offer on-site classroom facilities?

The roundhouses are outdoor classrooms and we have a cafe and outdoor under cover eating area. We also have an heated Prehistory Centre, perfect for activities during bad weather.

Is there first aid on site?

We have first aiders on site and first aid kits.

Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?

We have a disabled toilet and access for all pathway around the Camp.

Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?

We can tailor make one of our themed days for children with special needs and regularly work with children and adults with learning difficulties.

Anything else?

The Archer’s Rest Café is a heated indoor area for hot meals and seats sixty children. A BBQ dinner is provided on the first night, after which the children can roast marshmallows over the fire in the Chieftain Roundhouse, late night bat walk through the woodland and sleepover in your roundhouse. Continental breakfast is served in the morning and a packed lunch provided for day two.
