Whether you decide to bring your students along for a day in the woods or an overnight camp out, we can guarantee that they will have the time of their lives!
Drama in the Woods offer a choice of three 1 day or weekend residential experiences, which can be tailored for all ages and to the needs of each institution;
1) Rewild, Reconnect and Reset
We know that reconnecting with nature is proven to promote well-being. And our Drama in the Woods Rewild, Reconnect and Reset days and weekends do just that. Run by highly experienced practitioners, who have been leading workshops for young people for more than 20 years, Drama in the Woods provide bespoke projects for each educational institution to ensure that every student involved has the most wonderful and memorable experience.
Every project aims to create a safe environment to allow all participants the opportunity and freedom to explore their own creativity. Meaning they come away from our projects feeling invigorated, empowered and inspired, yet at the same time, calm and connected.
Workshops cover a range of skills, drawing upon the natural environment to deliver activities that connect the young people to each other and to the nature around them.
2) Open-air Shakespeare!
Do you want your students to explore Shakespeare in a completely unique way? Then let Drama in the Woods take them on a wonderful journey throughout an action-packed day or weekend of Shakespeare study and performance.
With exploration of the text, including tasks to delve into narrative, character, themes and key scenes from your chosen play. We can draw upon the knowledge students have already gained in their study of the text, or we can be the introductory workshop to kick-start their study.
3) Discover Ancient Greece in the Open-Air!
Drama in the Woods will take your students outside to learn about Ancient Greece through one of their most important and influential cultures... theatre!
The study of Ancient Greece at any key stage and from any subject on the curriculum, explores myth, ritual, religion, dance, music, architecture and literature. In Ancient Greece, those important elements of life were played out on stage in elaborate and dramatic productions. We will lead your students on an action-packed journey through the woods as they explore and learn more about Ancient Greek culture.
In our workshops we spend time finding the voices of the different gods or key characters and learn about who they were. Students take part in fun open-air theatre activities to explore those roles and use their own voices to bring each character to life. These are energetic and engaging drama activities which promote creativity, self expression and teach students to be confident public speakers. The use of voice is very different in the open air!
Day Visits!
Come along for the day and take part in an action-packed 6 hour workshop which allows students to participate in energetic team games through the woods, problem solving tasks to connect young people and improve group dynamics. There will be options for your young people to engage in creative tasks such as woodland art sessions, costume and prop making using natural resources and set design drawing upon the environment around them. In the afternoon, we focus on drama tasks and techniques, exploring open-air theatre and using the woods to bring a story or text to life.
Camp Outs!
On your arrival day in the early afternoon, your students will spend some time arranging their pre-erected tents. Young people will then participate in an afternoon of energetic outdoor activities from team games to art activities and drama workshops. There are options for all types of young people, so we ensure everyone has a wonderful time whatever activity they choose. There will be breaks included for lunch and snacks, and plenty of water refills.
After dinner, the children will gather around the campfire to take part in campfire
games, stories and songs. There will, of course, be marshmallows! Finally, the children will partake in our wonderful torch lit, dusk activity in teams in the woods called ‘Print Stamp Run’. This is one of the most fun tasks and makes sure they are ready for their strict bedtime at 10pm.
And the next morning, after breakfast, we do it all again, and if the weather is hot enough, we'll add a water gun fight through the woods!
Whether you choose a day visit or overnight camp, the days are endless fun for all, and children never want to leave a Drama in the Woods project!
