Throughout the workshops, all participants are encouraged to share thoughts and ideas. All ideas are listened to and considered as groups collaborate. We strive to ensure every participant feels valued, with tasks and activities that rely on good communication and team work in order that they be successful.
We believe the performing arts are for everyone. Through drama tasks and activities like improvisation and devising, participants develop a range of skills, including confident speaking, self-expression, ensemble, listening and accepting ideas, collaboration. At the same time, we create opportunities for individuals to develop their performance skills in a non-pressured, fun way.
The Drama in the Woods art and craft activities encourage self expression and participants to explore the natural world around them. Drawing on the many natural resources available, participants take part in activities like clay faces, woodland art pictures and sculptures, shadow drawing, leaf crowns, nature jewellery or mobiles, puppet making and much more. All of these activities promote mindfulness and well-being.
Many of the Drama in the Woods activities are designed to promote positive social interaction. Throughout every workshop or activity, participants will be required to consider others. Tasks that require participants to navigate and problem solve together and then reflect on how successful they were and why. Promoting positive relationships, based on mutual respect and trust.
By spending a day outside, in nature, participants inevitably become more aware and sensitive, and ultimately curious, about the wildlife whose space we are sharing. Whether that is tiny insects under a log a group might want for den building, or a city fox out scanvenging for food. The wildlife is everywhere and can be drawn on for inspiration, whether thats for a piece of art or to use as a character study. This, in turn, often leads to participants having a greater respect for the wildlife around them.
So much of the Reconnect, Rewild and Reset day is about promoting positive group dynamics and developing social skills in a safe and fun environment. Therefore, a range of fun, team building activities and tasks have been designed to get your students working together in a positive, respectful, collaborative and productive way. Amongst others, activities include den building, rope swing making and problem solving tasks.
