We all know there are huge benefits to living in this digital age, with information at our fingertips or the ability to connect with friends and family, wherever they are in the world, at the push of a button.
But for many children and teenagers, spending hours a day on a device has become a default setting. And getting young people outside, in nature, can prove at times to be a battle.
We know that reconnecting with nature is proven to promote well-being. And our Drama in the Woods Rewild, Reconnect and Reset days do just that. Run by highly experienced practitioners, who have been leading workshops for young people for more than 20 years, Drama in the Woods provide bespoke projects for each educational institution to ensure that every student involved has the most wonderful and memorable experience.
Every project aims to create a safe environment to allow all participants the opportunity and freedom to explore their own creativity. Meaning they come away from our projects feeling invigorated, empowered and inspired, yet at the same time, calm and connected.
Workshops cover a range of skills, drawing upon the natural environment to deliver activities that connect the young people to each other and to the nature around them.
Drama in the Woods fuse outdoor education, forest school and open-air theatre, so there are plenty of activities for every individual, whether they enjoy drama or not. There is a focus on team building and problem solving tasks in groups, as well as large team running games on the field or (where possible) in the woods.
The day will start with our ‘Rewild’ activities that get your young people running. This includes large team games and activities like Capture the Flag, Stamp Run and Commando. Many of these activities have a competitive element, but mostly are designed to encourage collaboration and team work. Whether groups win or lose, it is a shared experience that draws on each individual’s strengths.
After lunch we focus on Reconnecting, with open-air theatre games and tasks that are designed to promote confident speaking, expression, energy, positive group dynamics, inclusivity and tolerance. Here members are encouraged to share ideas and work together to present them.
Throughout the day there are options for students to take part in open-air drama workshops or woodland art sessions, should they prefer quieter, more focused activities.
As we reach the last session of the day, there is an emphasis on Resetting. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect as they take part in mindful activities such as den building.
Drama in the Woods can tailor and focus their workshops on specific areas, as required by each institution.
This is a non-stop, action-packed day for all Key Stages! And if it rains, we simply take it all inside!

Anything else?
Although we will endeavour to work outdoors in every workshop, sometimes our great British weather can get the better of us. All our workshops are designed to work indoors as well as outdoors. However, we are also used to working in all kinds of weather (we have performed in snow before) and we always let the school decide if they would like their students to work inside if the weather turns.
