'CSI Forensic Science Educational STEAM Workshop KS3 - KS5' with Pulse CSI
Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, students will be encouraged to recognize the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. All students will be encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyze causes.
Our objective is and always has been, to raise attainment & aspirations in Science and in STEAM. Our full-day Forensic Science Workshops are delivered on a nationwide basis. Our Educational Workshops are tailored accordingly to your requirements and learning objectives in KS3 | KS4 | KS5.
Working Scientifically in the Curriculum ………….. Science stimulates and excites students’ curiosity about phenomena and events in the world around them and at no time has it been more relevant than in today's world. It also satisfies this curiosity with knowledge. Because science links direct practical experience with ideas it can engage learners at many levels. The Scientific method is about developing and evaluating explanations through experimental evidence and modeling. This is a spur to critical and creative thought, all students learn to question and discuss science-based issues that may affect their own lives.
Delivered through a 'Full Day' Forensic Science Workshop at your school premises, in the School or Sports Hall, a series of educational, ‘hands-on' & practical activities, which additionally, promote early intervention and introduce students to the Criminal Justice System at an early age, when it really matters.
The national curriculum for science aims to ensure that all students develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry, and physics, developing an understanding of the nature, processes, and methods of science through different types of science inquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them and equipping them with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and in the future.
Our CSI Workshops are cross-curricular and support the following subjects:
Science: Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Citizenship, History, PSHE, History, Geography, Maths, English, Media, ICT, RE, Criminology, and Forensic Science.
In the 15 years of teaching this subject, Forensic Science and in particular, Forensic Science applications can now be used in establishing a person's ethnicity and heritage, which can be extremely useful during a Crime Scene Investigation process, and this development is discussed in detail within RE and PSHE sessions and is very popular.
The modern world needs young people who are sufficiently confident in their own beliefs and values that they can respect the religious and cultural differences of others, and contribute to a cohesive and compassionate society.
Our Forensic Science Workshops are designed to engage the students in “hands-on” interactive activities ensuring the student’s full participation both individually and within teams using problem-solving techniques.
Further Education: Additionally, students can learn about occupations/careers related to Forensic Science and Crime Scene Investigation and how these techniques relate and integrate into everyday life and the importance that this specialist skillset plays within today’s criminal justice system.
What activities are available during this educational workshop?
CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) Forensic Science - Full Day Workshop
9:15 am - 3:15 pm / 3:30 pm
Delivered in the school hall/sports hall and lunchtime can be accommodated if required.
MORNING SESSION: During the morning session all students will be fully engaged in practical, 'hands-on' activities, these will include learning about the processes and applications used in a Crime Scene Investigation including, Fingerprinting using Magnetic Powder and Black Ink. Additionally, the pupils will be looking at Footwear castings and producing their own footwear markings, analyzing their own hair and fibers from their clothing. The activity on Hair analysis is a great introduction to “DNA” and Inclusion and Diversity, which we explore and is always a very engaging and popular session with all pupils. The last part of this session is looking at the collection and preservation of evidence at a Crime Scene and the importance of evidence retrieval and the significant part it plays in a court of law, giving the students an insight into the Criminal Justice System.
AFTERNOON SESSION: During the afternoon session, all students will don a White SOCO (Scene of Crime Officer) suit, gloves, mask, and overshoes, and then they will be required to apply their newly acquired skill-set learned from the morning session to their group mock-up Crime Scenes. All groups will investigate and report their findings with the help of an Incident Report, a Victim Profile, and Suspect Profiles, and all the authentic forensic resources required to investigate this crime. In the afternoon session, as a Teacher you will witness firsthand how all the students completely engage in this workshop, problem-solving and equally, the workshop encourages your students to work independently and in “non-friendship” groups. Our CSI Workshops are guaranteed to Inspire, Motivate, Engage and completely keep your students on task all day.

Who are Pulse CSI?
Pulse CSI was formed in 2007 with a vision to engage and enthuse students about Science and STEAM-related subjects and professions. In order to achieve this, the founder, Jacqui Thompson decided to do this using the 'hook' of 'CSI' Crime Scene Investigation and the application of Forensic Science and its impact on society. This is done through the delivery of a “hands-on” interactive, full day, CSI Forensic Science Workshop which is proven to excite the student's curiosity in Science + STEAM in Secondary, Grammar, Independent, and SEND Schools and Academies at KS3, KS4, and KS5 levels throughout the UK.
Following personal study at the University of Lincoln in Crime Scene Analysis, Jacqui decided to utilize her work experience of 20 years within the Engineering Recruitment sector and Technical industries to develop her educational CSI Forensic Science Workshops, initially, rolled out through her local EBP (Education Business Partnership) in Lincolnshire, these proved to be very successful with both Schools and Teachers and coupled with an invitation to appear on BBC Dragons Den (Series 10) this added traction to her then already successful workshop rollout. Pulse CSI has now been operating successfully for nearly 15 years and many of their school clients rebook these workshops year on year, building them into their yearly academic timetable.
Reviews from Schools..
★★★★★ "Year 12 and 13 criminology students were lucky enough to take part in the Pulse CSI workshop on Tuesday. Students got first-hand experience with forensic methods used by Scenes of Crime Officers. They practised fingerprinting techniques and analysed their own fingerprints, conducted hair and fibre analysis and used forensic tools such as powerful microscopes and luminol to understand their uses at crime scenes.
This was followed after lunch by the chance for them all to don SOCO suits and investigate the evidence from a crime scene before using their investigation to come to a conclusion as to who the killer was. Thanks must go to Jacqui and Rosie from Pulse CSI who were inspirational in their delivery of the workshop. They all showed fantastic confidence, curiosity and resilience when working as a team to complete the challenging tasks throughout the day."
