Hands-On STEM Workshops & Clubs

Inventors & Makers

School Workshop

trip icon Engage and inspire EYFS-KS2 with STEM with our expert-led, hands-on workshops covering engineering, inventing, coding, and more.

Designed to fit in with your curriculum, our workshops strengthen pupils' grasp of core STEM concepts. Our qualified teachers come to your school and bring everything we need to give your children engaging and practical experiences in STEM.

We can also provide pre-recorded versions of most of our workshops to give you additional flexibility and meet your budget.

- Tailored to Your School

Choose an in-person or virtual session that suits your budget. Plus, tell us what you're learning, and our qualified teachers will weave these topics into their workshops.

- Improve Student Outcomes

Help students improve attainment in every subject - research shows that taking part in engineering activities improves outcomes across the curriculum.

- Expert Led

Our qualified and experienced primary teachers know how to connect teaching to the curriculum, and deliver workshops that inspire and engage.

- Easy Set Up

We do all the hard work for you! Booking is quick and simple, and prep time for both in-person and virtual workshops is minimal.

British Science Week 2025

Inventors & Makers have a collection of brand new workshops for British Science Week 2025 for using with N-Y6. The workshops link to the 2025 theme of Change & Adapt by focusing on the environment and our need to change and adapt our practices to protect our planet. We do this in KS1 and KS2 through practical engineering-based activities linking to sustainable energy production like solar and wind, and in EYFS through things we can do ourselves every day to look after our world. These workshops are available in-person and also via our award-winning and low cost virtual workshops.

What activities are available during this school workshop?

A variety of workshops are available to match your topics or British Science Week theme, each giving pupils the chance to take part in engaging practical activities to design and build using their own ideas.

Workshops include:
- British Science Week 2025: Engineering with Energy & the Environment (for EY, KS1 & KS2)
- Coding and Video Game Design (for UKS2)
- Coding & Robotics (for KS1 & KS2)
- Coding & Games (for LKS2)
- Coding Unplugged (for EY, KS1 & KS2)
- Invention & Design (for KS1 & KS2)
- Engineering & Structures (for EY, KS1 & KS2)
- Engineering & Machines (for EY, KS1 & KS2)
- Engineering with Space & Time (for EY, KS1 & KS2)

-For EYFS and Nurseries we have various other STEAM Theme workshops (e.g. space, dinosaurs, engineering, coding unplugged, life cycles, the weather, water, chemistry etc.)

- We also have Assemblies available in person or online to support your workshop in KS1 and KS2.

Which curriculum topics do we cater for?

green tick Design Technology

Mechanics and engineering Electronics Materials

Our workshops for KS1 and KS2 are linked to many areas of the Design & Technology curriculum, including engineering structures, mechanisms and the design process itself. We'll help your pupils understand the importance of DT to the world around us and how they can design, invent, engineer and build themselves.

Our Little STEAMers workshops and classes for EYFS cover a range of topics linked to D&T on engineering and building.

green tick Computing

Robotics Coding Game Design Information and Communications Technology Algorythms and data Encryption Decryption

Our workshops for KS2 link to several areas of the ICT as well as the Design & Technology curriculum.

Workshops can cover Video Game Design, thinking about systems and designing for a user, as well as Coding & Robotics designing moon landers, pedometers and games.

green tick PSHE

Teamwork and resilience People who help us

We teach through the Engineering Superpowers: problem solving, communication, collaboration and creative thinking!

All of our workshops use these skills and encourage children to become more resilient and confident in their own ideals and abilities.

It's impossible to be an engineer without learning to overcome failure and develop a growth mindset. We focus on many other aspects including teamwork, cooperation as part of our workshops.

green tick Physics

Sound Light Earth and space Forces Seasonal change Rollercoasters Aviation and Flight Forces and magnets Electricity and circuits

We produce dedicated KS1 and KS2 workshops for British Science Week every year and our full range of workshops covers a variety of topics including aviation and rollercoasters, linking closely to the National Curriculum targets.

Little STEAMers classes and workshops for EYFS cover a range of physics topics in an age-appropriate way such as ramps, planes and even gravity!

green tick Chemistry

Properties and changes of materials Scientists and inventors States of Matter Chemical Reactions

Our Little STEAMers classes and workshops for EYFS cover chemistry topics (e.g. chemical reactions, properties, states of mater, reactions) in an age-appropriate way ask for more details. We demonstrate then encourage the children to have a go.

green tick Biology

Plants Animals including humans Everyday materials Living things and habitats Digestive System Life Cycles Minibeasts Habitats Dinosaurs Underwater Animals and Habitats Ecology and environment

Our Little STEAMers classes and workshops for EYFS cover biology topics (e.g. the human body, plants, under the sea, and animals) in an age-appropriate way.

green tick Engineering

Pupils learn STEM concepts through practical engineering and science activities.

Building future-proof skills like problem-solving and teamwork, we also teach children to love engineering and creativity, helping your school become a bedrock for thriving futures in STEM.

What size groups do we cater for?

Our virtual workshops can be used with as many children as you like but our in-person workshops are designed for a class of up to 32 children.

Access for visitors with disabilities

Yes. We are experienced teachers who are familiar with teaching a range of needs.

Visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Yes, we are experienced teachers who are familiar with teaching a range of individual needs.

Anything else?

We also publish a weekly STEM Hero or 'Inventor & Maker of the Week' available on Social media or through email (contains material to use in your classroom), focusing on Inventors and Engineers who you might not be familiar with. Sign up on our website.

Who are Inventors & Makers?

Laura Cross set up Inventors & Makers in 2019 with a mission to help prepare today's children for tomorrow's world.

She originally trained as a lawyer and worked in the city for a few years before finding her true calling in education and teaching in some of London's Outstanding primary schools,

However, it was during her time leading curriculum design at a San Francisco education technology company that she started to think about the world of work that lies ahead for our children.
"We don't know what the jobs of the future will be, but we do know that our children will need to be adaptable, flexible and creative problem solvers."

Susie McAuley joined the company in early 2022 as lead teacher, delivering after-school clubs and workshops to schools in person and contributing to development of virtual clubs, classes and workshops.

Susie has been teaching for more than 30 years in schools in the UK and all over the world. She has been a computing lead and STEM coordinator as well as a class teacher so she knows exactly how to deliver what teachers are looking for.
