The Industrial Revolution! Victorian Steam - Back In Time | People Of The Past
- 45 minute Workshop Session
The Industrial Revolution is the name for a time of great change in industry, technology and science. Learn about how the invention of the steam engine moved industry forward. What was It like for those working on the railway? Detective work handling original objects helps pupils to understand the similarities and differences between the past and the present. Pupils ask and answer questions and develop their understanding of old and new, then and now and changes over time.
World War
WW2 - Back In Time | People Of The Past
- 45 Minute Workshop Session
All aboard! We need to evacuate the children. Using role-play, storytelling and costume, pupils explore the ways of life of people in the past. Detective work handling original objects helps pupils to understand the similarities and differences between the past and the present. Pupils ask and answer questions and develop their understanding of old and new, then and now and changes over time.
Physics topics: Forces, Fuels and Energy.
Object Hunt! Water, Fuel & Fire Museum Exploration
- Guided museum tour and quiz challenge. How do steam trains work? How is steam created? What are the physics behind a locomotive?
Local History
Industrial Railways Of Tamworth & Staffordshire
- 45 Minute Workshop Session
Explore local industrial railways, and identify them on maps of the past. How did people work with steam and how important were Narrow Gauge Railway's. Join one of our railway engineers and learn hands on all about how and why railways were built! Work together to build your own Loco, and explore all the different materials used.

- Guided Museum tour and quiz. Find out about significant characters in the history of the railway.
What size groups do you cater for?
Statfold can accommodate up to 150 pupils at any time. Your group will be split into smaller groups of 30 for your activities on the day.
Do you offer on-site classroom facilities?
Statfold has two classroom facilities on site. The Foden suite is a secure and comfortable room for workshops and our Children’s area is a bright and engaging space for learning.
Is there first aid on site?
Yes. We have a dedicated First Aid station and trained staff members on site at all times.
Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
Yes. Our site is fully accessible (including the train carriages) all required facilities are available.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
At Statfold we strive for inclusivity and thus work to ensure all group needs are catered for. We have staff working onsite with experience in leading workshops for any special education needs. Any of our workshops can be adapted to ensure all visiting pupils are catered for.
Anything else?
Statfold has free and secure coach parking. Diane's Diner is the perfect place to eat your packed lunch!
