Crossing the Atlantic: Stories and Craft (KS2)

An immersive and creative introduction to the transatlantic slave trade, this two-part workshop explores themes of belonging, culture and remembrance.

Part 1: Anansi Storytelling
Meet Anansi, the West African god of stories, and follow his journey across the Atlantic in an interactive storytelling session full of music, movement and meaning.

Part 2: Crafting for Change
Handle real museum objects and explore the legacy of slavery in Liverpool today. Students will create original artwork to be featured in this year’s Slavery Remembrance Day celebrations.

Bridging Histories: Exploring Transatlantic Slavery (KS3, KS4, KS5)

A thought-provoking workshop using object handling, critical discussion and creative responses to explore the histories and legacies of transatlantic slavery.

Students will:

Examine Liverpool’s connections to the transatlantic slave trade

Investigate historical and contemporary impacts of enslavement

Build vocabulary around identity, race and remembrance

Contribute artwork to the Slavery Remembrance Day walk of remembrance

Who are National Museums Liverpool?

National Museums Liverpool is made up of seven museums and art galleries in and around Liverpool, which welcome millions of visitors every year.

From virtual classrooms to hands-on activities, it offers a huge range of workshops and events for schools and groups, all linked to the national curriculum.

Thanks to generous support from the Lord Mayor and the 64 Trust, we’re offering a series of free curriculum-linked workshops to primary and secondary schools in the North Liverpool area, delivered directly in your classroom or at one of our local learning bases. SEND schools with 15 pupils or less can access any of our facilitator-led workshops for free. To discuss your pupils' needs and book a workshop, please call our booking team at 0151 478 4788.
