Covid-19

Book with a 25% Covid secure refundable deposit, once the full balance is paid this is also fully Covid secure & the School would receive a full refund should the School be forced to close due to Covid preventing the camp taking place. We have a continuously updated Covid-19 Risk Assessment & Social Distancing Policy in place that will be sent to the School.

- We bespoke all our camps during the planning stages making sure they are specific to the school and their children, every school has different needs and we make sure we meet those needs.

This is a list of our main activities, however we are always developing our activities, so if there is an activity your school would specifically like, just ask. We have a large team of instructors and we match our instructor's skill set to the activities requested by the school.

Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?

Wildlife

1. Feral Science deliver Wildlife sessions based on curriculum Biology from Upper KS2 to GCSE outdoors
2. We use a range of outdoor skills and bushcraft to reveal the curriculum science behind everyday things
3. All sessions are fully interactive and learners are encouraged to work together to problem solve.
4. Sessions can address the wildlife aspects of the biology syllabi including Ecology and Habitat studies, Evolution and Adaptation at GCSE with an increasing proportion of topics at lower Key Stages. This includes Mini-beast hunts and pond dipping (with a suitable location) and Animal Tracks and marks (with a suitable location)

Bushcraft

1. Big School Camp have qualified bushcraft instructors who understand that the skills are not only for use in a survival situation but have real practical value.
2. The skills are presented in a way that delivers a good understanding of the skill as well as the principles behind it. This ensures that the students will leave with more than just memories of a challenging and exciting day.
3. All sessions are fully interactive and learners are encouraged to work together to problem solve whether this be in the creation of a shelter or in fire lighting by friction.
4. Sessions address the core Bushcraft topics: Shelter building, Fire lighting and Fire by Friction, drinking water, Cordage, Sharp tool use and care.
5. Hybrid sessions are available that draw out learning in the relevant areas of science while acquiring a new skill. These sessions will be fully curriculum linked where possible.

Biology

Curriculum topics available: Ecology and environment, Plants, Living things and habitats, Evolution and inheritance, Habitats, Microbiology, Forest School.

2. We use a range of outdoor skills and bushcraft to reveal the curriculum science behind everyday things
3. All sessions are fully interactive and learners are encouraged to work together to problem solve.
4. Sessions can address a significant part of the Biology syllabi at all key stages including Cells, Body systems, Respiration, Evolution and Adaptation at GCSE with an increasing proportion of topics at lower Key Stages.

Physics

Curriculum topics available: Sound, Light, Forces and magnets, Forces, Fuels and Energy.

1. Feral Science deliver curriculum physics from Upper KS2 to GCSE outdoors
2. We use bushcraft, navigation and other outdoor skills to reveal the principles that underpin curriculum physics
3. All sessions are fully interactive and learners are encouraged to work together to problem solve.
4. Sessions can address the requirements of Forces including magnetism, Energy Stores and Transfers, Waves and much of Space Physics at GCSE with increasing proportion of topics at lower Key Stages.

Chemistry

Curriculum topics available: Properties and changes of materials, Chemical Reactions.

1. Feral Science deliver curriculum Chemistry from Upper KS2 to GCSE outdoors
2. We use bushcraft and a range of outdoor skills to reveal the curriculum chemistry behind everyday things
3. All sessions are fully interactive and learners are encouraged to work together to problem solve.
4. Sessions can address a significant part of the Chemistry syllabi at all key stages including Separation techniques, Potable water and Combustion at GCSE with an increasing proportion of topics at lower Key Stages.

What size groups do you cater for?

-We can run camps from 30 students up to over 200, we can usually accommodate any size group. Just ask

Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?

Yes, We believe all students should be given the opportunity to take part, we plan and adapt activities to ensure all are fully included

Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?

Yes, A number of our instructors have many years worth of experience working with students with special educational need. We believe all students should be given the opportunity to take part, we plan and adapt activities to ensure all are fully included

Anything else?

Food-

We have our very own registered catering team who travel with us to the camps and provide all the food that your school needs for the duration of the camp. They set up in a festival style, and have a range of menus available, suitable for all dietary requirements

Off Site Residential-

We can also to offer schools, if preferred, the opportunity to attend offsite residential courses at our privately-owned site in Rusper, Horsham

At Rusper we have 9 Bell Tents on a large site that backs on to a fantatsic wood

Who are Big School Camp?

Big School Camp create full-sized pop-up campsites with a host of outdoor learning experiences on the school site, allowing pupils to participate at low cost.

The first activity is building the camp with the children, we then run a wide range of activities that are chosen from our list by the school, we also have our own catering team that arrive and provide all the meals the school require for the duration of the camp.

Our wide range of activities not only meet, but exceed, many elements of the new national curriculum, such as Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA), Science through bushcraft, life skills through First Aid for children, plus various team building skills. These provide children with unique and unrivalled experiences which they will remember for their entire lives.

We have a large number of tents that help to create an instant festival-style campsite. We also have a number of Bell Tents and Event Shelters available. Big School Camp provides all the staff and equipment for the camps.
