Why
book 'Alice through the looking Glass' with The Drama Hut
During this workshop 'Alice' will lead the children to look 'through the looking glass' and use her experiences to discuss and explore how somethings in life aren't always as they seem. Sometimes things just don't make sense, but, thats ok! Sometimes, things aren't 'straight forward', but it's how we can tackle these situations that can make a huge difference. Through improvisation, role play, games and storytelling the children will be able to recreate characters and perform scenes within 'Alice's' story, exploring different character points of view and themes of friendship and resilience.
What activities are available during this educational workshop?
Alice will lead the children through improvisation games, role play, team work exercises and create pictures using physical theatre based on key themes from 'Alice through the looking glass'. We will also explore some poetry and song, whilst also practicing breathing techniques and discussing how and when we can apply them to our daily lives to help keep a sense of clarity and calm.
Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?
PSHE
Teamwork and resilienceMental health and awareness
This workshop aims to boost confidence and encourage freedom of expression through open conversation, aimed at increasing resilience and wellbeing in children. We look to provide a safe, fun space to gently explore complex themes of friendship, self image and self worth using the popular story of Alice through the looking glass and the themes and characters it contains.
Performing Arts
Our workshops include tailored, fully interactive, drama games, role play, teamwork exercises, songs, movement and more, led by a professional costumed actor.
What size groups do you cater for?
We typically run 60-120 minute workshops with up to 30 children at any one time and can offer special day rates for multiple classes. We are also able to provide two different topics on the same day for different year groups.
How does safeguarding work for online workshops?
Online sessions are jointly hosted by the teacher and our actor and may or may not be recorded, depending on the preference of the school. Ideally workshops take place in a school hall with a large screen, however, they can also work extremely well in a classroom, with desks pushed aside. Our Risk Assessment document is available upon request and is updated regularly to comply with all current advice and guidelines.
What technology/devices/type of internet connection do schools need for an online workshop?
Online workshops are delivered live by professional actors and typically last 60-75 minutes each. They are structured in the same way as an on-site visit and have the advantage of utilising the benefits of technology – in particular, virtual backgrounds, enabling actors to transport children back in time, to any era or location. School will require a good internet connection and ideally a large screen to project our actor on to, so all the children have good visibility.
Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
Yes - the very nature of our workshops being so visual and experiential, has led to extremely positive feedback from teachers.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
Yes - children with special educational needs really benefit and enjoy our workshops.
