'Lymley Wood Day Visit' with Lymley Wood for School Trips and Educational Visits?
We want all visitors to enjoy spending time in this ancient woodland and provide memorable experiences for all. Nature Connectedness is at the heart of everything we do, helping create the next generation of Nature Guardians. We give back to nature and work with her to improve, rewild and restore the woodland and meadow to benefit all members of the ecosystem, including humans! Staff are experienced and qualified teachers , Forest School Leaders and Youth Workers as well a holding degrees in Environmental science, and archaeology and a working ecologist. Design your own action packed programme including adventure activities , bushcraft, forest school and maybe even a trip to the coast.
All tents provided, bell tents for up to 8 children and staff tents for up to 4. Some visiting staff like to bring their own tents. Your group will need their own sleeping mats, sleeping bags and pillows (some available for children on free school meals.) Marquees are used for meeting and eating, self catering or fully catered options available.

What activities are available during group visits?
Adventure days : team building challenges, blind trail, low ropes, obstacle course, mini and high zip wire, bouldering wall, Giant swing,archery (coming Summer 2021)
Forest school inspired days : such as mini beasts hunt, bug hotels, mud kitchen, art and natural crafts, active free play.
Total immersion themed days ; led by Theatre in Education team to support Vikings, Romans, Saxons topics.etc.
Eco schools and environmental awareness sessions, orienteering, bushcraft skills, camp fires, outdoor foraging and open fire cooking.
All available in any combination! We can design a bespoke timetable to suit your specific interests and childrens needs.
Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?
Tracking, exploring, animal and bug hunts, bird watching, session on animals homes in the woods
Fire lighting, den building, survival skills ,whittling, challenge games
Curriculum topics available: Plants, Everyday materials, Living things and habitats, Ecology and environment, Life Cycles, Minibeasts, Habitats.
Pond dippipng, environmental mapping, bio diversity exercises and studies, bug hunts, ecology information
Curriculum topics available: Climbing, Archery.
low ropes and climbing course helps develop physical skills, team games in the field such as rounders football etc.
What size groups do you cater for?
up to 60 children (3 classes)
Do you offer on-site classroom facilities?
We have outdoor learning spaces that can be sheltered from the weather. We don't have desks or classrooms but we have tables, flip chart boards and spaces for quiet reflection. We are off grid so there is no electricity points or plugs on site.
Is there first aid on site?
Yes our staff are all First Aid (outdoor) qualified and first aid box on site.
Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
Yes we do, although we cannot accomodate wheelchairs at the current time. We have had visual impaired children and those with long term health conditions attend and take part sucessfully and we can discuss saftey equipment individual specfications with teachers and parents before arrival.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
Yes we do. We have a special place in our hearts for children and young peope with ACS or ADHD conditions, anxiety and social and emotional needs. We will discuss with teachers and parents any individual needs so that we can best prepare for all our childen to ensure a successful and fun visit.
Anything else?
The Screen Free ethos at Lymley Wood is a key factor for choosing us. There are no phones or other devices allowed on site, this includes adults and teachers! Safety phones are available on site at all times for emergencies but all other electronic devices are to be collected in on arrival at the woods. Perfect site for a reward trip or end of year day(s) out. Fun to be had on the low ropes, bouldering wall, crate stack and zip wire activities as well as den building, bushcraft, team games and forest school inspired sessions.
Who are Lymley Wood?
Lymley Wood is a Community Interest Company, re investing back into the venue to help disadvantaged or vulnerable children access the provision. Our site is based in an ancient woodland and meadow and is designed with children and young people in mind. Our staff are experienced teachers, youth workers and forest school leaders. We know that spending time in nature has Transformative Power and we insist on the venue being screen and phone free to help enable connection to the natural world. We give the children new experiences and promoting a You Can Do It attitude. Our 3 acre site is private, secure, very beautiful and non threatening and our highly experienced staff encourage adventure, trying new things and learning new skills. We only have one school group at any time providing a very safe exclusive access environment.
We embrace Reflection Time after activities and at the end of day around the campfire where positive reinforcement and peer praise is encouraged. Your children will make memories, laugh a lot and have amazing things to tell families that they have achieved after a stay at Lymley Wood.
