There are many opportunities for role play through drama, movement and music during our Roman workshops. The students will use their best dramatic story telling to recreate the famous battle formation and learn all about how successful they were against Boudicca. This can be done in smaller groups throughout the workshop or done as a whole class! With Roman inspired music playing to really add to the atmosphere. Our practitioners are also performers - delivering a mini performance at the beginning of the session and remaining in character throughout.
The Romans are well known for their impressive Mosaics, especially using them in their famous public bath houses. In this workshop the students will get a chance to learn about the different types of mosaics the Romans would have made, how much they would have been worth and even get creative and have a go at making their own out of a material of your choosing. Discussing the history of Art with examples of mosaic designs that may be found in a rich Roman villa. Crafting their designs with sculpting with clay or a variety of paper methods - students will get a feel for how to design and produce some roman inspired art.
Roman Britain is the main focus, but we can't talk about the Roman Invasion without examining the impact their arrival had on the Celts; including the rise of Boudicca. How did the Celts react when they arrived? How did they fight back? Why were they unsuccessful in their fight against them? How did the Romans go into battle differently to the Celts?
Explore the day to day life and the battles of the Romans in Britain! What did The Romans wear? What did they eat? What happened during the Roman Conquest? What was a Bath House actually used for? During this interactive workshop, the students will engage with our hands-on activities, including a mini-museum full of authentic replica artefacts to discover what life really was like during the Roman occupation in Britain. As well as a demonstration at our weapons table, the session looks at how Roman coins were made, with every student being able to take home a coin which they helped make!
