Learn how you would read and write during the Tudor times! During a time when not many people could, how did those who could do both use it to share information? What did they write about? How does it feel to write with a Quill and Ink when compared to a modern day pen? During this workshop, the students will take a look at some diary entries from the Tudor period and examine what is written and even the handwriting. Shakespeare is also a focus in this workshop as plays were extremely popular in this time, but why were they?
Dance, Drama and The Arts were a very important part of the Elizabethan and Tudor era, so much so that Elizabeth I became a Patron of the Arts and William Shakespeare famously started The Globe Theatre. This workshop comes with an added extra (optional choice) to include a session in Tudor Dance. Why was it an important part of the Royal Court and at a feast? How did what they wore affect their movements? Where did the routines come from and why were they done in mostly groups? Many of the most popular dances came from France and Spain - how did they make it over to England? Authentic Tudor music is also featured in our workshops.
The Tudor family is a very important family in English History; so what might it have been like to live in that time period? Who were the Tudors? What effect did their power have on the people around them and how/where we live today? Hands on activities, including our Mini-Museum and era focused games, let children take on the roles of peasants and members of the Royal Court.
What was it like to live in the Elizabethan time period? What did they eat? What did they wear? What did they do for fun? How did Elizabeth I become known as one of the greatest Monarchs in our history? Why did Elizabeth I not want to marry? We use a wide variety of resources in our mini-museum to explore the daily life of the rich and poor during this time in history. Through hands-on activities, the students will learn about who Sir Walter Raleigh was, and how, during the Age of Exploration, he introduced potatoes and many other new things to Britain; many of which we still use today! There were many battles during this time in history - our replica weapons table explores what armour and weaponry armies would have had when going into battle and how they would be been used.
The Tudor Dynasty is an infamous time in British History. In this workshop, we look at how the Monarchs lived when compared to those who were from a poorer background. Take a look at life at court, what you could and couldn't say in front of the King or Queen and even what unusual laws were made by the rulers at the time. What did the Monarchs do for fun? What did they eat? How did they dress?
Yes - workshops can be adapted to cater for additional needs.
