The morning workshop focuses on making and role play. The pupils will be met by Mamluk, a slave from the palace, who will guide them around the street of the dead. After a short introduction the children will engage in a series of activities and role play that will immerse them in history. While working, the pupils will also be spreading news and asking questions to learn more about ancient Egypt and the reign of Tutankhamen. Practical activities include: Mummification, Canopic Jars, Ushabtis dolls, Tomb Painting, Scarab Charms, Scarab Carving
Ink making and writing passages from the book of the dead, Bread making and Making perfume cones.
The afternoon session consists of the pupils recreating the festival of Wepet-Renpet: The Opening of the Year. Pupils will practise and then perform The Lamentations of Isis and Nephthys, The Tale of Osiris or The Dance of the Wax Crocodile. Others will be slaves and attendants and two children will be chosen to be Pharaoh Tutankhamun and Queen Ankhesenamun.
