Due to the ongoing situation and the requirement for social distancing practices, we are utilising a blended delivery process in order to provide a unique and innovative learning experience.
The By Design Group are proactively planning and continue to implement safe working practices to enable education, enrichment and working activities to develop, as the possibility of face-to-face interactions fluctuate around the constituent parts of the United Kingdom. This includes making company facilities, offices, and learning environments COVID-19 compliant, adhering to 5 guiding principles:
1. Prioritise staff, learners and service users’ wellbeing, health and safety.
2. Follow government guidance within the constituent parts of the United Kingdom.
3. Adopt a phased and managed approach.
4. Deliver improvements and adjustments as and when required.
5. Ensure all decisions align with our strategic priorities.
The By Design Group and associated companies’ approach to deliver safe, socially responsible operations with regard to COVID-19 can be found in the By Design Group COVID-19 Governance Statement.
Learn by Design bring education to life through curriculum and extra-curricular support workshops, for primary and secondary schools nationwide. We use a range of innovative and creative methods to engage and motivate learners, both at school and beyond.
This School "Challenge Your Imagination" programme is delivered on behalf of ZEISS is a FREE school programme offered to Birmingham region schools. Areas include, Sutton, Sandwell, Birmingham and Sandwell.
Topic: Lenses, Vision and Robotics.
Linking the principles of robotic technology provides the ideal platform to deliver Career Related Learning and bring learning to life. The sessions are introduced with a discussion that talks about industries such as medicine, manufacturing and scientific research and encourages learners to think about how robotics is used within all these careers.
The Robot Challenge
Using the VEX robotics software the learners have the opportunity to control the robots with a handset/remote control to perform a series of challenges in an arena (like a remote-control car). It focuses on learning new skills quickly, as each team member has around 1 minute 30 to score points for their team.
Curriculum topics available: Mechanics and engineering, Electronics, Virtual Reality.
Discussions include learners to explore ideas around design and technology and how design impacts performance and innovation.
Learn by Design promotes the importance of Careers Related Learning and at every opportunity we link core science messages to world of work. We encourage learners to broaden their thinking and showcase future careers.
Curriculum topics available: Sound, Light, Forces and magnets, Electricity and circuits, Earth and space, Forces, Seasonal change, Rollercoasters, Fuels and Energy, Aviation.
Our STEM sessions cover the basic principles of physics by testing speed, strength and reactions using cutting edge sports testing equipment. These are put into practise in further sessions that Learn by Design offer.
We offer a broad range of workshops that enhance curriculum learning. These include sessions on Motivation, STEM and Employability.
We can deliver sessions to a class of 30 or larger dependant on individual school requirements. A carousal of sessions can be offered to provide a full school day and to multiple year groups.
Where required we offer blended virtual delivery options. Our Education Communicators can deliver a session LIVE STREAMED into the classroom via a webinar software. This can be recorded by the school if required. The Robotics session is adapted and would not include hands on challenge activity.
School would only require normal internet connection as per use of online browsing etc.
