This is a chance for pupils to use various skills - including problem-solving, creative thinking, teamwork, investigative, science, mathematics and research - in a "Real Life" situation.

The students will learn how to decipher encryptions to solve the riddles.

What activities are available during this educational workshop?

Coding-breaking exercises.

Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?

English

The students will have to use a cypher wheel, amongst other methods, to decipher the challenges presented to them. The challenges that are presented to the students require them to navigate the use of written text which needs deciphering for them to move forward with the overall exercise.

Reading and writing are vital in the latter stage, where they look at using PowerShell to access hidden files.

Cyber-security Encryption Decryption

The second half of the workshop challenges the students to find and solve encryptions on Windows devices. They will be looking for information within images, either visually or in the data. In the file itself.

After that, minor coding will be used to navigate to a hidden file with the final challenge.

What size groups do you cater for?

Up to 35 students can take part in each session. A member of staff is required to be present during the workshop. This is to help manage behaviour during the workshop.
