The students will have to use a cypher wheel, amongst other methods, to decipher the challenges presented to them. The challenges that are presented to the students require them to navigate the use of written text which needs deciphering for them to move forward with the overall exercise.
Reading and writing are vital in the latter stage, where they look at using PowerShell to access hidden files.
Code breaking challenges encourage students to work systematically, test hypotheses, and refine their strategies, fostering a growth mindset and resilience. Additionally, these activities can be collaborative, promoting teamwork and communication as students share ideas and solutions. Integrating code breaking into lessons not only makes learning fun and interactive but also equips students with valuable skills for academic and real-world problem-solving.
Code breaking activities are an excellent way to foster teamwork and collaboration among students. These activities require students to work together, share ideas, and combine their strengths to solve complex puzzles. By engaging in code breaking, students learn to communicate effectively, delegate tasks, and support each other in overcoming challenges. This collaborative approach not only enhances their problem-solving skills but also builds trust and camaraderie within the group. Integrating code breaking into lessons provides a fun and interactive way to develop essential teamwork skills that are valuable both in and out of the classroom.
The second half of the workshop challenges the students to find and solve encryptions on Windows devices. They will be looking for information within images, either visually or in the data. In the file itself.
After that, minor coding will be used to navigate to a hidden file with the final challenge.
