Due to current regulations on site, it is advised that no more than 1 class (~30) pupils attends on site, unless these classes can mix. Entry into Plantasia from the public can be reduced but is not guaranteed, so social distancing guidelines are to be maintained as best possible.There are handwashing facilities throughout the site, and masks must be worn according to current guidelines.

Join the expert Zoo Keeper Team as you tour our tropical zoo, meeting many of our wonderful animals along the way. You will get close up views of the animals, see feeding experiences, learn amazing facts about each, before finishing with a Q&A with the experts.
These tours can be catered to meet your learning outcomes and can be booked for either 30 or 60 minutes. Large numbers can be virtually accommodated so get in touch now if your family, club or group would like to partake in this online adventure. What activities are available during group visits?
Workshops include Marvellous Minibeasts, Rainforest Roam, Rainforest Rangers, Roots, Shoots, Flowers and Leaves, and Easy Peasy Seed Germination. These can also be tailored to the needs of your school, and the projects being undertaken.
Self Guided Exploration will include Trails from site but can also be linked to many other areas, including art, design, and photography.

Citizenship
Curriculum topics available: Team building.
Our workshops delve into citizenship by giving pupils and idea of their place in the world, and that their own choices can have far reaching impacts on tropical rainforests. We also discuss some indigenous tribes, and their uses of the fauna and flora. Art

Schools can enrich their art programmes with a visit to Plantasia. With the vast array of foliage and animals there is something to draw or grow inspiration from anywhere. We have provided leaves, animals and objects for schools to use to focus their drawings. Wildlife
Most of our workshops at Plantasia offer a hands-on approach to learning about wildlife. Several animals are shown and discussed, and we can focus on habitat adaptations, where they are from, variety of life, and our impact on these animals. We have tropical rainforest and desert species within our glass house, with animals from all over the world. These include Bearded Dragons, Common Marmoset, Mandarin Trinket Snake, Spectacled Caiman and Meerkats. Biology

Throughout our choice of workshops and tours we delve into plants and their biology (Including seed germination), animal diversity and where they come from, habitats and how animals are adapted to where they live, how our choices affect the natural world, and the role of zoos in conservation. Environmental Geography
Curriculum topics available: Rainforest, Climate change, Conservation.
The rainforest is very topical for environmental geography. Whilst meeting some of the animals from the rainforest, you can compare them with animals from the desert, and how different each of those environments are. We discuss our impacts on the rainforest, what that may mean for us in the future and why it is important to conserve these areas. PSHE
The environment in Plantasia is such that it promotes a positive sense of well being. Being in nature is scientifically proven to promote good mental health and well being. Our workshops, which primarily focus on the animals and their environment, give us a respect for our natural world, and ownership of it. We discuss how our choices can contribute to deforestation, including the impact of what we eat, and thus why it is important to conserve rainforests. What size groups do you cater for?

Do you offer on-site classroom facilities?
Yes. Our spacious education room can be set up with large tables and chairs. It contains storage areas for children's luggage, and a tv screen for USB presentations. The room will be closed to the general public for the duration of your time at Plantasia Tropical Zoo.
Is there first aid on site?
Yes, but we prefer schools have a designated First Aider with the party

Who are Plantasia?
Plantasia is a Tropical Rainforest Zoo in the heart of Swansea City Centre. Being in existence for 30 years we have strong educational links, and a varied programme to offer all schools.
Schools visiting can choose from self guided exploration, or curriculum linked workshops and tours. We also offer an opportunity to bring our workshops and animals to you as part of our Plantasia on the Road programme. We can tailor our workshops to emphasise your particular needs and focus!
We are also offering new virtual tours to bring the zoo to you! Come take a virtual tour through Plantasia from the comfort of your classroom and meet a variety of our animals in our Highlights tour. Or, delve into our deadly dozen and learn about animal and plant adaptations and behaviour. Just like our other workshops, these can be tailored to meet your needs. There is no such thing as a stupid question, so ask our dedicated and enthusiastic zoo & education team about our animals!
Our newest development is the Grow Your Imagination Program which schools can join. It is a developing partnership program with links to local conservation groups and charities to deliver hands on conservation/ environmental based workshops for free to schools.
