We are a small family run business that prides itself on offering highly-personalised outdoor experiences. Our sessions are always, fun, interactive and hands on. Firstly we want everyone to feel happy and safe in the outdoors and then we want to inspire and teach and allow everyone to experience the benefits of being in touch with the natural environment.

Our school groups in Shropshire all take place on an family run, organic farm. There whole ethos is about sustainability which makes it a perfect place for groups to come and learn about and be immersed in nature. The site used is a 5 acre wood surrounded by fields. The site is exclusive to any individual group, accommodation is in canvas bell tents and we have facilities to keep even the largest groups dry if the heavens open. We work with you to tailor each experience to your outcomes so every visit is unique. All sessions can be linked to your curriculum.

Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?

Curriculum topics available: Personal development and resilience, Team building.

The majority of our activities are designed for groups to work collaboratively so everyone is included and feels valued. All our instructors have this as a core to there roles and responsibilities.

All our activities encourage everyone to be physically actively active in a fun, safe environment. For example - This could be through moving around in the woods looking for firewood, building natural shelters or through our stalking and tracking games.

Curriculum topics available: Healthy Living, Healthy eating, Teamwork and resilience.

We constantly encourage students to be challenged intellectually and physically with our activities through fun problem solving challenges. We encourage them to be innovative in how they solve the challenges and allow them to reflect on the solutions in a positive way. We encourage health eating and pride ourselves on providing the highest quality fresh local food available and making sure everyone has a full belly so they are able to get the best out of themselves.

There is no better place to learn about wildlife and the natural world. Being a part of nature and immersing yourself in the natural world gives you a better understanding about how it all works together. All our staff are passionate about the natural world and this comes over in all our work.

Bushcraft is at our core. All our staff are passionate, highly skilled instructors who deliver fun, interactive, hands on sessions and the students will leave with real life practical skills.

Curriculum topics available: Plants, Animals including humans, Living things and habitats, Ecology and environment, Life Cycles, Minibeasts.

Biology is steeped in everything we do and our instructors can deliver sessions that really help to bring the world around us to life. This could be through looking at which plants are edible, learning about how to prepare and butcher small game and through observing changes in the seasons.

Curriculum topics available: Natural resources.

We can deliver sessions that bring this subject to life. The natural resources around us are so important and how we use and preserve these are at our core.

Curriculum topics available: Environment.

Understanding the environment and the impact we have on it is a theme throughout or programmes. Our site is off grid and offers pupils the chance to see renewable energy and water-saving technology in action as well as how we recycle an use compost waste to feed our woodland.

Curriculum topics available: Conservation.

As part of our sessions we can bring in practical conservation tasks such as habitat management, coppicing, tree planting to name but a few. These give hands on, practical experiences as to how we can protect and enhance our environment.

We can help deliver field studies into many different subjects to help your school and students attain their goals. We can work with you to tailor field studies to align with your current curriculum and teach pupils the key principles and process steps to conduct field studies accurately and effectively.

There is no better place to lean about how farming should be and what it takes to farm in a sustainable way.
Babbinswood Farm is an organic farm which works with nature to provide good nutritious food. They have a small herd of dairy cows, beef cattle, sheep and pigs. The milk the cows produce is processed in our dairy on the farm to make delicious products like yogurt and ice cream, all the dairy produce is packaged in reusable glass bottles and jars. Being organic has huge benefits for the wider natural environment and wild life here on the farm which can be demonstrate.

Curriculum topics available: Stone Age, Iron Age.

Through primitive bushcraft sessions that we run we can really get across how our ancesters would have lived. We can do this through the fire lighting, whittling, cordage making activities as well as many more.

What activities are available during group visits?

Bushcraft is at our core and is an expansive subject. Through our core sessions there is endless room for further study. We can run really simple sessions right through to in-depth study based sessions so your group can get what you want out of the experience.
These are a list of most of the key subjects we cover but it is not exhaustive.
Fire - Introductory fire lighting (tinder, kindling and fire lighting using sparks), different ignition methods, different fire lays and their uses, friction fire lighting (rubbing sticks together), how to extinguish a fire properly, stone age fire lighting.
Tool use - Safe use of a knife and saw through carving (tent pegs, pot hangers, small animal traps, spoons, cutlery and atl atls to name a few), axes for felling and splitting, saws and coppicing and pruning.
Water - Finding, collecting, filtering and purifying, signs of water in nature, digging gypsy wells, solar stills, making simple filters, ways to purify
Navigation - night navigation, natural navigation, how to use a compass, orienteering
Shelters - When and where to make a shelter, natural leaf mould shelters for one, two or many people, tarps and knots
Outdoor cooking - Bannock bread making, twist bread making, small game butchery and cooking, fish butchery and cooking, deer butchery and cooking, pancakes over the fire, pizzas over the fire
Stalking and tracking - Animal tracks and signs, stalking and stealth games, camouflage

What size groups do you cater for?

We can work with small groups of 10 students up to 200+ pupils for half day activities up to 4 night residential packages.
