School Workshops - Bigfoot Arts Education

Home / School Workshops

Bigfoot has been a leading light in the world of arts education since 2000. This means that we are fully committed to providing schools with the VERY best creative experiences for their children and staff that money can buy!

We fully understand how high quality drama, music, dance and art interactions can enrich the curriculum and help bring learning to life through imaginative play and exploration. Therefore, each programme we offer is the perfect blend of fun, energy, interaction, reflection, and education.

Plus our staff, who we call ‘Bigfooters’ are highly qualified and skilled theatre practitioners who we have personally selected, trained and invested. Each Bigfooter has a DBS that we check every year and PLI up to the value of £5 million. All our facilitators are also trained in child protection & safeguarding children, health and safety, and equality & diversity policies and procedures.
We are proud to say that all performances and workshops have been thoroughly researched, tried and tested so that you can feel confident your students will have a truly wonderful experience with our Bigfooters!

Don’t just take our word for it though…

‘Fantastic, engaging, encouraging- what could be better?! Thank you Bigfoot for another amazing workshop programme!’ (Emma Hart, Hornpark Primary)

‘Once again, you have touched the hearts and minds of the children in our school; Bigfoot’s presence was immense and the children (and teachers) have learnt so much! I have to say that, out of all the external providers that I have used throughout the years, yours is the company that I will always have in my mind!’ (Siobhan Johnston, Bishop Winnington Ingram)

‘It was absolutely amazing – our Bigfooter was so knowledgeable, genuine and fun. And the programme was absolutely outstanding from start to finish. The children were instantly engaged and left full of enthusiasm and passion for the subject. One of the best workshop I've ever seen!’ (Stephanie Quinn, Sandringham School)

‘What a fabulous fun session to introduce a topic . The way the workshops were delivered meant that children could recall the story very well; it was so good that children and staff didn't want it to end!’ (Lorna Hancock, Windrush Primary)

‘I just wanted to say a huge thank you for coming into school! Your facilitator gave all our students confidence and encouraged them to draw upon skills they didn’t know they had within. Our children had someone to look up to, and someone whose faith in them did not falter, and that is priceless to us. If there is any kind of star rating then you get a 10 out of 5!!’ (Kim Blythe, St John’s C of E Primary)

‘So much more than a workshop: it is the beginning of a conversation about one of the biggest issues children face, conducted in such a fun and engaging way.’ (Year 6 Teacher, St Boniface Primary)

People are always stronger together. And at Bigfoot we are no exception…We are therefore delighted to be joining forces with ‘The Worry Wizard’, Amy Smythe, an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with the BACP. Amy boasts over fifteen years of experience helping children develop tools to manage Worries before they become more significant mental health issues that can seriously affect a young person’s mental Wellbeing.

The menu of programmes we have developed together is for EVERYONE. Everyone has Worries, and so everyone can benefit from this unique opportunity. Coupling the therapeutic techniques developed by Amy, with Bigfoot’s own creative approach to working, this proven method of managing children’s emotional Wellbeing is now available to all schools wanting to nurture their student’s mental health. The sphere of activity is not confined to the classroom; students are invited to take Wellbeing activities home. Consequently, children are supported to develop a shared language to explore Worries and Wellbeing, both at school and at home, allowing all key adults around the child a greater insight into their emotional world.

Project Formats are:

Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?

green tick Citizenship

Curriculum topics available: Personal development and resilience, Team building, British Values.

All of Bigfoot's workshop inherently promotes the learning of PSHE & Citizenship. By working together, young people collaborate, communicate and cooperate, learning to exchange ideas, challenge prejudice, and acknowledge the importance of diversity and equality throughout.

green tick Performing Arts

All of our curriculum based workshops use 'the arts' (drama, dance, music, art) to engage young people in exploring important, and sometimes quite complex and challenging, issues. Using movement, sound, imagination and real life interactions, we create a safe forum within which children can learn and play together to extend their knowledge about a wide range of subject areas.

green tick PSHE

Curriculum topics available: Healthy Living, Anti-bullying, Teamwork and resilience, Mental health and awareness, Right and Wrong.

Our Worry Wizard programmes will:
• Encourage children to develop a sense of self worth, Belief and Courage so that they
feel empowered to approach a trusted adult if they have a Worry.
• Increase emotional literacy so students understand that, together, Worries can be a force
for positive change.
• Raise awareness about how Worries, if not challenged, can manifest into greater issues
that can have a big impact on our Wellbeing.
• Involve children in creative activities that will spark questions and Curiosity about mental
health and how it can affect our everyday Wellbeing.
• Help children to recognise and celebrate their accomplishments in order to Shine, and help support parents/carers to unlock hope when supporting a child with Worries.
