All of our workshops are available online and can be live streamed into classrooms, halls and homes. COVID related cancellations are available at short notice as long as workshops can be rescheduled for later in the year.
The Drama Hut believe that children should have ready access to drama in order to support learning and was created to provide an affordable service that teachers could access, to help bring the curriculum to life. Through drama, children are able to experience a subject, complementing and enhancing their learning in the classroom.
The Drama Hut's workshops offer an opportunity for children to truly experience a subject. Our experienced actors take the children on a journey of discovery enhancing any work being covered in schools in a creative and physical way.
All our team are professional actors, able to facilitate learning through performance. They all share experience working with children and a common passion of learning through drama. All facilitators are DBS checked and implement The Drama Hut CPP (Child Protection Policy).
During this workshop our actor will take on the role of Mary Seacole, to both remember and explore her life and work. By creating pictures, the children will briefly explore the Victorian era, then through improvisation, travel to the Crimea and Mary's Hotel for the wounded. With the use of role play, become a soldier or nurse working for Florence Nightingale during the Crimea, perform a poem about Mary's life and create a time line to place Mary Seacole firmly within a historical time frame.
As an important historical figure, Mary Seacole is portrayed by a professional actor, to help children both remember and explore her life and work. By creating pictures, the children will briefly explore the Victorian era, then through improvisation, travel to the Crimea and Marys Hotel for the wounded. With the use of role play, become a soldier or nurse working for Florence Nightingale during the Crimea, perform a poem about Mary's life and create a time line to place Mary Seacole firmly within a historical time frame. We shall also cover the prejudice that existed during this time and explore the importance of her work in context with black history.

“We have used The Drama Hut on several occasions to help enrich and inspire the children’s experience of the curriculum. All facilitators have been well prepared and able to use their dramatic skills to deliver well-pitched and interesting workshops. Children are always excited after the session and are able to speak confidently about what they have learnt.”
Marie Hedges, Orleans Primary School, Middlesex
"The workshop was great, exactly what we wanted to round off our topic. Even though the workshop was via zoom Amelia managed to keep the children engaged throughout and they haven't stopped talking about it. The workshop addressed important issues at an age appropriate level and the children learned so much about Mary Seacole and life at this time."
