Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?
Art
Curriculum topics available: Printingmaking, Drawing, Sculpture, Design.
The arts engagement programme offers a range of workshops where pupils and students gain access to cultural capital, learn about art and artist and develop their visual literacy while also developing their own creativity. These sessions are:Art in nature - an introduction to a range of looking and drawing techniques inspired by the natural world.
Sculpture at Chatsworth - includes observational drawing skills taking place inside the house and/or the gardens. Learners will be introduced to a select range of 3D objects to study.
Printmaking - learn about the techniques and processes of printmaking and experiment with using monoprint techniques in the learning centre.
Georgian
Our new interactive learning experience 'Explore the House' covers a number of historic periods and topics: the learning team will facilitate a visit linked to history or art and design in this interactive 90-minute experience. The Georgian period can be unpacked through the life and interests of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire. Farm
Our farmyard offers a number of sessions for each key stage. Sessions include:Little Farmers Animal Experience - session learning how to care for three small animals.
Farmyard Experience tour - learning about the life cycles of our farm animals. On the tour, you will meet horses, pigs, sheep and hens as well as having the opportunity to handle/touch some of the animals.
Tractor trailer - earning about the animals who make the park their home and the people who look after it. Full commentary will be given by the driver about the sheep (lambs during lambing season) and farming on the estate. Other animals you may see are cows and the two types of deer we have on the estate.
Elizabethans
Our new interactive learning experience 'Explore the House' covers a number of historic periods and topics: the learning team will facilitate a visit linked to history or art and design in this interactive 90-minute experience. Bess of Hardwick was a contemporary of Elizabeth I. Bess owned Chatsworth and traces of Elizabethan Chatsworth can be detected in the house and surrounding landscape today. Monarchs
Our new interactive learning experience 'Explore the House' covers a number of historic periods and topics: the learning team will facilitate a visit linked to history or art and design in this interactive 90-minute experience. Royal portraits and objects can be included in this learning experience. Victorian
Our new interactive learning experience 'Explore the House' covers a number of historic periods and topics: the learning team will facilitate a visit linked to history or art and design in this interactive 90-minute experience. The North Wing of the house was built during the Victorian era. Victorian life and work can be included. Biology
Curriculum topics available: Plants, Living things and habitats, Life Cycles, Minibeasts, Habitats, Animals including humans.
Our outdoor learning sessions include a range of multisensory activities designed to develop environmental literacy. Our sessions include:Get to know trees - explore the wonderful world of trees in the garden and Stand Wood.
Perfect Pollinators and Fabulous Flowers - explore the Kitchen Garden, orchard and wild flower areas within the gardens. We will discuss pollination and how this works and why it is so vitally important for our world.
Seasonal Habitat Safari - Explore different habitats including woodland, water, wildflower areas and gardens. Learn how the seasons affect plants and animals and how the day length varies.
Sensory Nature Trail - exploring the landscape pupils will use their sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste as appropriate, and make and record observations.
What size groups do you cater for?
For a self-guided visit, we can accommodate large groups across our site. For guided sessions, we can accommodate groups up to 72 in one day.
Do you offer on-site classroom facilities?
We have two learning centres: The Stickyard – our Outdoor learning centre which has both indoor and outside spaces. The Old Potting Shed – our learning centre in the heart of the garden.
Is there first aid on site?
First Aid trained staff are available on site with a first aid room.
Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
Chatsworth is an Accessible Derbyshire location. There is a lift in the house, enabling access for visitors with restricted mobility. The garden is accessible to visitors who use manual wheelchairs and electric scooters, please take extra care on steeper slopes. The farmyard entrance is at the top of the main car park. A lift and a ramp give access to all parts of the farmyard. Please be aware that the playground is a woodland site with uneven terrain and a soft bark surface. The paddocks and picnic area are accessible via a gently sloping footpath. There are adapted lavatories near the house entrance, in the Carriage House restaurant and in the farmyard. Assistance dogs are welcome in the house, garden, farmyard, playground and park.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
Our sessions can be tailored for SEND groups and individuals. Contact us to discuss the requirements of your group.
Anything else?
Entrance prices start from £4.90 per learner and led sessions start from £2 per person.
We offer complimentary tickets to teachers/leaders visiting in line with the national teacher guidelines. Foundation, KS1and KS2 – 1:6. KS3 and above – 1:10. All additional adults are charged at the learners’ rate.

Who are Chatsworth?
Learning at Chatsworth is delivered by a team of specialists with expertise in arts, heritage or environment based learning. In the house, garden and farmyard we deliver cross-curricular sessions that cover English, History, Science and PSHE as subjects. We integrate art and creativity into STEM based learning, making us an ideal STEAM centre.
Your session will meet a broad range of needs and learning styles.
