Overnight Living History School Trips
The Golden Hinde
Just like Sir Francis Drake’s famous ship which circumnavigated the world in 1577, the reconstruction of The Golden Hinde has sailed the circumference of the earth, clocking up over 100,000 miles in total. The Hinde serves as a Living History Museum and breathes new life into the events that have helped shaped history and our country.
Our Overnight Living History programme has been running for over 20 years and provides children with a fully immersive experience to explore the history of Francis Drake's ship and his circumnavigation of the globe.
Why are The Golden Hinde great for School Trips and Educational Visits?
The Overnight Living History programme makes the most of the lived experience by having children become the crew on the famous voyage. It provides an interactive and entertaining way for children to learn about history through role-playing techniques. Once aboard the ship the children will live the life of a sailor training as a Gunner, Officer, and Barber Surgeon.
The new crew will share stories and have their fill of Tudor stew and grog over dinner before preparing to battle the Spanish for their treasure. The evening ends with celebrations of victory on deck with the crew and then bedding down in authentic sleeping quarters.
